On 10 February 2025, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) launched its newest hub in Albania. The event took place at Europe House in Tirana.
The EIT Community RIS Hub Albania was set up to:
- Link business, education, and research groups
- Connect local actors, innovators, and entrepreneurs with Europe’s largest innovation network
- Boost Albania’s competitiveness and growth
- Act as a one-stop shop for talent in education, business creation, and innovation
This new hub is part of the EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS). It will help Albania grow a stronger and more sustainable economy.

Opening Session
High-level guests attended the launch, including representatives from:
- GIZ
- EU Delegation to Albania
- EIT Headquarters
- Embassy of Germany
- Albanian Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation
- EIT RIS Hubs in the Western Balkans
- Albanian beneficiaries of EIT programmes
Second Session
Moderated by Ms. Elona Xhaferri (EU4Innovation), this part introduced participants to the EIT Community. Presentations came from:
- EIT Innovation Officer
- Ms. Françeska Korançe, EIT Community Officer in Albania
A major highlight was the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements confirmed cooperation and secured the hub’s long-term impact.
Final Session
The day closed with:
- A stakeholder roundtable
- A networking session to share ideas and build partnerships
Why It Matters
With the launch of the Hub, Albania is now part of the EIT RIS network, which spans over 20 countries in Central, Eastern, and Southern Europe.
The EIT Community Hub Albania will:
- Engage local innovators
- Support policymakers
- Give entrepreneurs and researchers access to European opportunities in digital, green, and sustainable innovation
The launch marked Albania’s entry into Europe’s largest innovation ecosystem. By joining the EIT RIS network, Albania has opened new doors for its startups, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
The hub now stands as the central point of innovation in Albania, ready to drive growth, sustainability, and stronger links with Europe.
