EIT Community Moldova Ecosystem Day: Catalyzing Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Chisinau
EIT Community Moldova Ecosystem Day, held in Tekwill, Chisinau, on 13 June 2024, marked the first physical entry of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology into the local ecosystem. The event was attended by approximately 30 people. Most of the EIT and the EIT Knowledge and Innovation Community speakers participated online. It was attended by high-level speakers, including Catalina Plinschi, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization of the Republic of Moldova and Martin Kern, Director of the EIT. During the session about deep tech innovations, Oxana Paladiciuc, from the National Agency of Research and Development, Olga Melniciuc, from Start-up Moldova, and Aliona Rotaru, representing Dreamups discussed ways to stimulate entrepreneurship in Moldova and best practices for moderate and modest innovator countries.
At the event, the EIT KICs opportunities that are currently available to Moldovan stakeholders were presented. It is important to note that Moldova is not yet eligible for the EIT Regional Innovation Scheme. It has however been possible for Moldovans to apply to two EIT Flagships since 2024: the pre-accelerator EIT Jumpstarter and the EIT Infrabooster program, which enhances collaboration between science and business. As part of the event, stakeholders had the opportunity to interact directly with the EIT Infrabooster coordination team, including University of Warsaw, one of the main partners. Participants gained a greater understanding of EIT Manufacturing, EIT InnoEnergy, EIT Food, EIT Digital, and EIT Culture and Creativity. The EIT KICs highlighted the EIT Community’s commitment to the integration of Moldova into the European innovation ecosystem.
It is worth noting that this was the second event sponsored by the EIT Community for the year. Earlier in April, the EIT Community organized a virtual Moldova Start-up Awareness Day.
