EIT Community Hub in Slovakia
Building the future of innovation in Slovakia
Fostering a vibrant innovation ecosystem in Slovakia is essential for achieving sustainable growth, global competitiveness, and technological excellence. At the heart of our mission lie European values and a shared commitment to openness, collaboration, and excellence, which guide everything we create. The EIT Community Hub Slovakia serves as a catalyst, connecting research institutions, universities, and businesses into a dynamic knowledge triangle where ideas evolve into impactful solutions.
Our network brings together over 190 higher education institutions, 150 research organizations, and more than 570 businesses, forming a strong foundation for innovation-led progress. We believe that in building bridges and fostering networks, there is profound value, and that true strength emerges through cooperation and shared purpose, enabling Slovak innovators to access international opportunities and grow globally.
Our approach reflects the understanding that meaningful innovation stems not only from advanced technologies but also from a culture of curiosity, adaptability, and thoughtful creation. By uniting education, research, and business while embedding trust, sustainability, and inclusivity, the EIT Community reinforces Slovakia’s resilience, attracts foreign investment, and generates high-value jobs. This collaborative spirit ensures Slovakia is ready to meet future challenges and lead confidently on the global innovation stage.

About the EIT Community Hub in Slovakia
The EIT Community Hub Slovakia is more than an innovation platform – it is a cornerstone of European cooperation, uniting research, education, and business in a dynamic network. As part of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), our mission goes beyond economic growth: it is about building a resilient, inclusive, and ethical innovation ecosystem that reflects the very principles Europe stands for.
Our work is rooted in the values that define Europe—freedom, equality, solidarity, and respect for human dignity. These principles guide how we innovate: creating open and fair opportunities, fostering trust through transparency, and ensuring progress serves the common good. A strong network is like a strong community—one that people can rely on in times of uncertainty, finding strength and support to grow both professionally and personally.
EIT’s Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) bring these values to life through concrete action, and Slovakia engages across all major fields shaping Europe’s future. EIT Raw Materials takes the lead in ensuring responsible resource use and circular economy practices, while EIT Manufacturing strengthens advanced production and industrial competitiveness. EIT Food drives innovation for sustainable and resilient food systems, and EIT Health advances solutions for better healthcare and well-being. EIT Urban Mobility fosters cleaner, smarter cities, and EIT Culture & Creativity enriches the cultural and creative industries. Complementing these efforts, EIT Digital, EIT Climate-KIC, and EIT InnoEnergy accelerate Europe’s digital transformation, climate innovation, and the transition to sustainable energy—creating a truly interconnected innovation ecosystem.
Through this network, we do more than develop technology – we uphold freedom of thought, the pursuit of knowledge, and solidarity in the face of global challenges. By investing in people and ideas, we grow the economy, reinforce our communities, and safeguard the values that define Europe.”

“Across all EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities – from Raw Materials to Culture and Creativity, Health, Food, Digital, Manufacturing, and beyond – our work is grounded in the European values enshrined in the Treaty on European Union: respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, and solidarity. These principles—alongside the freedoms that allow people, ideas, and innovation to move across borders – make collaboration possible and drive meaningful impact. They are not just ideals; they are the basis for building a competitive economy, achieving sustainability, and ensuring that Europe leads with openness and shared purpose.”

EIT Funding & Impact
Between 2021 and 2024, Slovakia secured €8.7 million in EIT funding, representing 0.5 percent of the total EIT resources allocated across Europe. This positions Slovakia 12th in absolute funding among the analyzed countries, well below leading beneficiaries such as Spain (€285 million), Italy (€107 million), and Poland (€48 million). While this share may seem modest compared to larger economies, it marks an important step in strengthening Slovakia’s presence in the European innovation ecosystem.
During this period, Slovakia successfully supported 78 ventures, engaged 7,675 participants in EIT education and training activities, and launched 11 innovations through EIT-backed initiatives. These figures demonstrate that despite limited financial resources, Slovak innovators, entrepreneurs, and learners are actively participating and delivering tangible outcomes.
Looking ahead, there is a clear opportunity for Slovakia to further increase its participation and attract greater EIT support. By building on the foundations already established, fostering stronger collaboration with Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs), and mobilizing national stakeholders, Slovakia can secure a significant role in Europe’s innovation landscape.
